A bundle of problematic personality traits that can be classified as “narcissism” is plaguing the world more and more. Reasons might be social media and the gig-economy which seem to reward narcissist behaviours and make them all worse, despite seemingly unrelated at first. I hope that by seeing the patterns, we can handle these people better, make them act less destructive and become better humans ourselves.
Narcissists appear to think very highly of themselves, but a hypothesis is that this is just overcompensation for a frail ego. But they do feel as they deserve better than others.
Narcissists make others feel bad on purpose.
They use emotional reasoning.
They project their faults onto others. This is very odd, but when you start looking for it, you see it all the time. “You are denying science!”, “You are bought by the industry", “You don’t care about other people!”, “He is a racist!”.
They do not want you to be in contact with other people. Taking a royal prince from his family, or blocking “spreaders of false information” as the narcissist social media giants do.
They get false memories of being right in every discussion. When you successfully have proven that their argument is wrong, their mind blocks this information and they act as if that never happened, and they continue to spread the hoax.
They need control. Interacting with free peers is uncomfortable for a narcissist.
They want a lot of attention.
They really really don’t like being made fun of. This is a good way to expose a narcissist, and while few like to be made fun of, the reaction from a narcissist is special.
Narcissists do not work well with anyone, but they seem to prefer to promote other narcissists.
So what can we try?
Do not be afraid of having an amazing self-esteem, but try to work on making your ego less frail. By practising being humiliated in public, you stop caring about it and become free.
Be a person that tries to make others feel better.
Ridicule emotional reasoning, and learn to counter it with selected and/or over-the-top but your honest emotions about how this total disregard for reasoning and facts make you feel.
Projections can be used to play Projection Bingo. See how often a narcissist projects and take a point every time!
Never ever let yourself be manipulated into avoiding some people (or wrong-think), but of course do not start to hang out with actually dangerous people.
Repetition over and over again is needed to counter the narratives that are created by narcissists who are repeating their lies over and over again. And ridicule everyone who suppressed the correction.
Make them uncomfortable by refusing to bend to their whims. See how they scream when you do not wear a mask and meet your friends! They enjoy seeing you feel worse, so it is morally justifiable to have the same feeling about them.
“Do not feed the trolls!” is an old Internet forum saying. There are plenty of reason to feed the trolls though, like for example to get more attention from the algorithms and to:
Make fun of the narcissists! Again: They enjoy seeing you feel bad, so it is morally justifiable to enjoy this. And you might even make them more healthy, so you might be doing them a painful favour.
Promote people who aren’t narcissists or at least not the worst of them.

En samling problematiska personlighetsdrag som verkar komma tillsammans kan klassificeras som ”narcissism” blir alltmer vanligt förekommande och/eller synlig i samhället. Orsaken kan vara sociala medier eller gig-ekonomin som kan belöna dessa beteenden och göra dem mer uttalade. Här är några tips på hur du kan hantera personer med denna personlighetsstörning, få dem att handla mindre destruktiva och hur du kan göra för att inte själv bli narcissist.
Narcissister tycks tänka mycket högt om sig själva, men en hypotes är att detta bara är överkompensation för ett skröpligt ego. Men de anser sig vara värda bättre än andra.
Narcissister försöker medvetet få andra att må dåligt.
De använder emotionellt resonerande.
De projicerar sina fel på andra. Det här verkar konstigt, men du ser det väldigt tydligt när du börjar titta efter det. “Du förnekar vetenskapen!”, “Du är köpt av industrin!”, “Du bryr dig inte på andra människor!”, “Han är en rasist!” och liknande sägs alltid av dem som är skyldiga till just detta.
De försöker förstöra din kontakt med andra människor, och t ex förstöra relationen med din familj och vänner, samt säga åt dig att du inte får läsa vissa saker ifrån “folk som sprider falsk information”.
De får falska minnen om att det var de som fick dig att erkänna att du hade fel i en diskussion som slutade i motsatsen. Deras hjärna skyddar helt enkelt deras ego ifrån idén om att de hade kapitalt fel genom att direkt radera informationen.
De behöver kontroll och blir otrygga av att umgås med fria jämbördiga människor.
De vill ha mycket uppmärksamhet.
De gillar verkligen inte att bli gjorda narr av. Detta är ett bra sätt att upptäcka en narcissist, och medan få gillar att bli utsatt för hån, så är reaktionen från en narcissist speciell.
Narcissister fungerar inte bra med någon, men de tenderar att hjälpa fram andra narcissister på bekostnad av dem utan störningen.
Så vad kan vi göra?
Var inte rädd för att ha en fantastisk självkänsla, men försök att arbeta på att göra ditt ego mindre skört. Genom att öva att vara göra bort dig offentligt slutar du bry dig om det och blir fri.
Var någon som försöker få andra att må bättre.
Förlöjliga känsloresonemang och lär dig kontra det med utvalda kanske överdrivna men ärliga känslor om hur denna manipulatione får dig att känna. Du framstår bara som svag, kall och trist om du försöker använda logik.
När du lyssnar på en narcissist som talar kan du spela projektions-bingo och ta ett poäng varje gången narcissisten pekar på sin egen brist hos någon annan.
Låt dig aldrig manipuleras så att du undviker vissa människor (eller feltänk), förutom om det handlar om direkt farliga personer såklart.
Upprepning behövs om och om igen för att motverka narrativen som skapats av narcissister som upprepat sina lögner om och om igen. Och förlöjliga narcissisterna som förträngt rättelsen!
Gör dem obekväma genom att demonstrera hur du fullständigt skiter i deras vanföreställningar om t ex munskyddsbärande och att låta bli att träffa vänner. De gillar att se dig lida, så det är moraliskt OK att njuta av att se dem lida. Kanske det även gör dem friskare, så du gör dem en tjänst, även om den är plågsam.
“Mata inte trollen!” lyder ett gammal Internet-forum-ordspråk. Det finns dock många anledningar till att man ibland vill mata trollen för att få mer uppmärksamhet (även om man inte är speciellt narcissistisk) eller för att man vill:
Gör narr av narcissisterna! Återigen: De gillar att plåga dig, så du behöver inte skämmas för att du gillar att plåga dem.
Hjälp och lyft fram dem som inte är narcissister eller åtminstone inte de värsta av dem.
