My advice, that might not fit your or your friends situation: Say ”No, that is not going to happen! I do not consent!”. Do search for what to do when you get fired, but make them fire you! Even if you love your boss that says “I really do not want to fire you, and I think this is insane too, but I have to.”, make that boss suffer from following insane rules because that might cure the boss from being in a sadist organization and become free like you will be. And depending on where you live: If you make them fire you, you have a chance to sue the crap out of them! Might not be beneficial for you to do that, but keep your options open by not quitting voluntary. And note that for example Biden’s administration hasn’t written an executive order yet, so there is nothing but words in media that are fooling clowns that there are laws. In other countries there are laws, but they are not according to the constitution, so they must not be upheld with force.
You might not be able to buy fancy stuff or travel in style, but even with little money you can buy what-ever you need and have even better experiences than you can have with a lot of money:
Buy and sell used objects. You will not save that much money, but you will learn skills in negotiations and about people you would never meet otherwise which will be extremely important in a crisis situation.
Use for example AirBNB instead of a hotel with hired staff. And try to find alternatives to AirBNB, of course.
